# Exploring the Future of Smart Buildings | NexusCon 2024

[Commercial Real Estate](https://blog.innerspace.io/topic/commercial-real-estate), [smart building](https://blog.innerspace.io/topic/smart-building)

Earlier this month, InnerSpace attended [NexusCon 2024](https://www.nexuslabs.online/nexuscon2024) in Denver, Colorado, where we explored the latest in smart building technology, automation, and sustainability. It was an excellent opportunity to connect with industry leaders and showcase how our real-time data solutions transform workspaces.

## **Key Takeaways from nexuscon 2024**

**![NexusConTakeAways-BlogGraphics copy](https://blog.innerspace.io/hs-fs/hubfs/NexusConTakeAways-BlogGraphics%20copy.webp?width=760&height=760&name=NexusConTakeAways-BlogGraphics%20copy.webp)**

- **Community and Collaboration:**NexusCon brought together a diverse mix of building owners, consultants, and tech vendors, all focused on creating digital, decarbonized buildings. The event fostered a strong sense of community, with insightful discussions sparked by case studies and small group gatherings.
- **Real-Time Data and Indoor Air Quality (IAQ):**Indoor Air Quality was a primary focus, with real-time monitoring proving crucial for healthier workplaces. Our team learned how businesses can use real-time data to improve air quality, productivity, and safety.
- **Operational Efficiency through Data Integration:**NexusCon sessions highlighted how combining occupancy data with HR and building management systems unlocks new levels of efficiency.
- **Bridging the Adoption Gap:**Several sessions highlighted the importance of integrating occupancy data with HR and building management systems to drive operational efficiency. We continue to hear from industry representatives that technology platforms are increasingly being sought after to solve big challenges across organizations, from improving energy efficiency to optimizing workspace layouts.

A key challenge in the smart building space is widespread adoption. While we’re excited to see more businesses turning to technology to address their challenges—whether it's operational improvements or cost reductions—we recognize there’s still work to be done in building stronger use cases and proof points for software platforms that drive smarter, adaptive environments.

During the event, [InnerSpace](https://innerspace.io/) CEO, [James Wu](https://www.linkedin.com/in/wuj3888/), alongside [Kevin Sauer](https://www.linkedin.com/in/kevinsauer/) of [Sauer Strategy Work](https://www.sauerstrat.com/)s, shared insights in the session *"Lessons Learned in Adopting Data-Driven Decision Making in Office & Workplace."* They discussed the latest innovations shaping workplace strategies and how businesses are embracing data-driven solutions to make more informed decisions.

At NexusCon, we saw firsthand how real-time data is shaping smarter, healthier, and more efficient workspaces. As we continue to innovate, we’re excited to lead the way in creating more adaptive environments that improve both operations and the employee experience

At InnerSpace, we’re excited to use these insights to help our clients create efficient, adaptive, and sustainable work environments.
